A while back, on the older forums, in a contest, I created the flavor of an extremely dark plane. A plane where even the land itself wishes to hunt you down.
In that plane I created a species called Blood-Renders. They are imps that are so fierce that many of the most elite hunt them as pets or guardians of their treasures. They are, concepted, as being able to tear the blood from the body if they so desire. Yes, it's painful.

I have yet to come with a card that shows this ferocity, but I did on design way back...

Red Blood-Render --
Creature - Imp Beast (U)

Flying
: Red Blood-Render deals 4 damage to target attacking or blocking creature, and 4 damage to you. Put a +1/+1 counter on Red Blood-Render.

The concept is there, but I wanted to make it a little more playable at the same time. Also, it was a zombie back then; I changed that. I did a minor change to the card to make it MORE playable than its previous version. Let me know what you think...

I think the fierceness is halved when the ability is purely defensive.
Just from a flavor standpoint, though I guess if they are guards that would be reasonable.

It's not that they are exactly guards.
It's like a dog. A flying dog. A flying dog that wants to eat you, not just attack you.

What I could do, is making do that to blocking creatures. That way it could flavorfully, be protecting some creature, and aggressive at the same time? The reason I picked attacking creatures is because that has more of a flavor of trespassing. But if I think of it as a pet... I kinda like blocking creatures. Plus it makes it a little less OP because as blocking creatures, it could block VERY aggressively. It could kill a 7 toughness creature the first time it blocks (block, deal four damge, get +1/+1 counter).

, : RBR deals 4 damage to target blocking creature, then put a +1/+1 counter on RBR. You may pay 4 life instead of the mana cost to activate this ability.

What if I split it?
Mana cost to activate against blocking creatures, 4 life to activate against attacking creatures?

^^ That last one is too good. The nearest thing exiles all cards on the field for :4::w::w:, and letting you do it one sided is..... it's quite a bit of a power increase there.

Keep in mind you also need six legal targets to cast it. Like Hex.
Keep in mind that mine costs six, though hybrid, colored mana. which is more difficult to accrue than is .
Comparing cardss like:
Murder and Unmake
and this starts to look just about right.

Now, I know this isn't your TYPICAL dwarf design, but given they haven't had too many dwarves in magic yet, I'm thinking that I will flavor them more as designers or inventors (of weapons or demolitions of course). Not quite as much as, say, Esper, but enough that dwarves are to good ideas, as goblins are to bad ideas.

second version is mini-scapeshift. Given what it does in comparison, though, I highly doubt anyone would use it over scapeshift.
first version in multiplayer is quite literally is "I'm about to die, so f*** you!" card. you're probably going to choose to kill a lot of lands off one person.
I suppose it could be useful in ramp decks as well.
